Ground breaking for a new activity center in the Union school district was held Thursday. The new multipurpose Activity Center will be built south of Union Tuttle Stadium on the Union High School campus.

The center will include a 5,800-seat arena that can be used for various activities. Voters in the Union district overwhelmingly passed 2 consecutive bond issues to pay for the $22-million building.

The new center is expected to be complete in 2003.
