(Southaven-AP) -- Six baseball players were injured yesterday when lightning struck the dugout where they were seeking protection from a thunderstorm.

Pearl American was playing Houlka in the Senior Division of the 2001 Dizzy Dean World Series in Southaven when the storm started.

Three players from Pearl and three members of the Houlka team were hit by lightning.

Eighteen-year-old Corey Hughes, who saw the lightning hit the dugout, said he thought it was a harmless strike until he saw one of the players on the ground.

Trent Hudson -- a member of the Pearl American baseball team -- was one of six injured at Snowden Grove Park.

Captain Roger Thornton of the Southaven Fire Department said none of the boys had visible signs of injury, although all of them complained of tingling in their ears.

Hudson was the only one transported to a hospital.

The 18-year-old was listed in stable condition at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East late Sunday.
