Tulsa Public School’s regular school year starts August 15th, but will there be enough certified teachers to fill every classroom? That's more of a challenge than ever.
Tulsa Public Schools have 149-vacancies right now at the elementary, middle and high school levels. That’s despite having hired 118-teachers. Teachers leave for a variety of reasons, but school leaders say it's most often because of money.
If the district can't find certified teachers in those subjects, they'll have to use other certified instructors. People with degrees can pursue alternative certification, a process that now takes about two months, or apply to substitute teach.
