OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ OG&E Electric Services filed a request for a rate reduction Wednesday to lower customers' electric bills about $79 million over the next six months, officials said.
The filing with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission calls for an adjustment in the annualized fuel factor, which is a varying amount that is collected from customers for the cost of fuel used to generate electricity. The adjustment will take effect Aug. 2.
OG&E residential customers should see a reduction of 7.9 percent, or $6.80 per 1,000 kwh in their monthly electric bill, OG&E officials said in a news release. With August consumption generally higher than 1,000 kwh, customers should see even more savings, officials said.
OG&E's ability to generate more power with coal and the significantly lower cost of natural gas now compared to last winter are the primary reasons for the lower costs, officials said.
