TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Tulsa police have no suspects in the death of a man who was shot last week while walking along a street.
Frederick Vernell Ballard, 18, was shot four times Thursday and was hospitalized with wounds to his stomach, chest and legs, reports show. He died at a Tulsa hospital on Saturday.
Police were called to north Utica Avenue at 11:23 p.m. Thursday, Officer Lucky Lamons said.
Ballard told officers he was walking along the street when he passed another pedestrian. He said the man turned around and shot at him, Lamons said.
``He said he did not know who shot him or why'' and gave only a vague description of the shooter, but ``we believe that Ballard did, in fact, know who shot him,'' Lamons said.
Medical workers also asked him if he knew who shot him, and he nodded his head, indicating that he did. But because he had a tube in his mouth to help him breathe, he could not speak, Lamons said.
``We believe he did not think his wounds were as serious as they were and did not ID his attacker at the time he was talking to officers,'' he said.
Police were investigating possible motives.
