The Tulsa School Board is expected to decide tonight about a proposed dress code for the district's 42-thousand students.

The board will consider the issue at its regular meeting tonight.

The dress code isn't popular among students, who say it stifles their individuality.

The proposed policy bans piercings, other than those in the ear and would have students cover any tattoos.

It also would prohibit sandals, saggy pants and bandanas or any clothing displaying gang symbols, tobacco, alcohol or drugs.

The proposal also prohibits shorts and skirts shorter than six inches above the knees, strapless garments and tops with a low neckline and shirts that expose a bare midriff or bare back.

Those who want, will be given five minutes at the meeting to speak about the proposal, but they must sign up to speak before the meeting.
