BELVIDERE, Vt. (AP) _ A state trooper's videotaped traffic stop helped nab a man accused of shooting four people in their house, police said.
Douglas Provost, 34, was scheduled to be arraigned Monday on four counts of first-degree murder.
The victims were identified as Jessica Bishop, 18, her father Mitchell Bishop, 46, Derrick Davis, 23, and George Weatherwax, 19, who was a boyfriend of Jessica's.
All four lived in the home where they were found late Friday. Police said several other people also lived there and three had escaped during the shootings.
Provost was stopped by a state trooper a short time after the shooting, but was let go. However, the trooper made a videotape of the stop with the camera in his cruiser. When shown the video, witnesses identified Provost as the gunman, police said.
The home is on Route 109 just east of Belvidere Center, a town about 40 miles northeast of Burlington with fewer than 300 people. Police on Sunday continued to gather evidence.
A motive for the killings was unclear.
Provost was ``known to family members but was not a friend of the family,'' state police Capt. Bob White said.
