EASTBOURNE, England (AP) _ The Wimbledon champion two years ago and the runner-up last year, Lindsay Davenport proved Saturday she's ready for the grass at the All England Club.
Davenport, who is playing her first tennis since a three-month layoff with a knee injury, swept Spain's Magui Serna 6-2, 6-0 Saturday in just 43 minutes to win the grass-court tournament at Eastbourne.
The serve of the 6-foot-2 (1.87 m) American was too much for Serna, and her returns were just as good. Davenport didn't drop a point on her opening two service games.
The American began the second set with a break of serve despite needing treatment on her heavily bandaged right knee. A winner in Scottsdale just before the injury that prevented her playing at the French Open, Davenport had few tough moments against the Spaniard.
