TULSA working to clean up complaints of tall grass and weeds

Warm wet weather is perfect for growing grass, but if it's over 12" tall, it's against the law. The city has a system for resolving complaints about tall grass and other neighborhood problems.

KOTV's Emory Bryan says a City of Tulsa clean-up crew spent much of the day at a local vacant shopping center, acting on a complaint about tall weeds and trash dumped on the site. It's an extreme example of problems that are handled by the city of Tulsa's "neighborhood inspections" department. This site was used as a dumping ground, and Thursday the city hauled off more than 15 truckloads of trash. The weeds were mowed, and the shopping center was boarded up, all because of a complaint made just two weeks ago.

Tim Cartner with Neighborhood Inspections: "We do our best to work with the owner to resolve the issue, but in this case, the property owner didn't make contact with the city." In this case, the city spent $5,000 for the cleanup, and they'll bill the property owner. Thursdayâ€™s clean up was a huge problem, but handled in the same way a complaint about a neighbors tall weeds would be handled.
