LAWTON, Okla. (AP) _ The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents approved another new contract for football coach Bob Stoops on Tuesday, this one worth $2 million annually.

The deal, approved during a meeting at Cameron University, extends Stoops' contract by two years, through Dec. 31, 2007.

He will continue to make a base state salary of $200,000, but is guaranteed $1.8 million in outside revenue _ an increase of $600,000. The contract also includes performance incentives worth $500,000.

In October, the regents doubled Stoops' pay to $1.4 million. He ended up earning $1.957 million because he met every incentive, including winning the national championship and being named Associated Press coach of the year.

``I don't know if there is anybody in history who has ever been national champion and coach of the year two years in a row,'' OU president David Boren said. ``If he did hit everything again, a second year in a row, it would make history.''

Boren said Stoops is one of the top three coaches in the country.

``We considered not just his winning, but his character, values and the coaching staff he put together,'' Boren said.

Also Tuesday, the regents awarded raises to athletic director Joe Castiglione, basketball coach Kelvin Sampson, women's basketball coach Sherri Coale, softball coach Patty Gasso and women's golf coach Carol Ludvigson.

Castiglione received a $30,000 raise, to $193,770.

Sampson's guaranteed salary was increased from $525,000 to $800,000. Coale received an $87,000 increase in her package, to $252,000. Gasso's raise was from $89,100 to $93,000.

``You have to look at what has happened to football and basketball coaches salaries, nationwide, the last two years,'' Boren said. ``There has been a very rapid escalation ... and it's really beyond the control of any one institution. The market has dramatically changed.''
