(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Oklahoma's no-call registry takes effect Wedneday, but those who have signed up probably won't see a difference for a few weeks.
Telemarketers have 30 days to get more than 400,000 telephone numbers off their company calling lists.
Charlie Price, spokesman for the attorney general's office says people on the registry might not see a difference until February 1st.
Telemarketers must comply with the no-call list or face fines and criminal charges.
Telemarketers soliciting contributions for nonprofit and religious groups will still be able to call people on the no-call list. So will salespeople trying to set up an in-person meeting with a potential customer. Political campaigns are also exempt.
