The year is ending in a tragic way for a family in west Tulsa. That's after a car hit and killed a 12-year old boy Monday afternoon.
News on Six anchor Craig Day says according to a neighbor, Michael Cook was chasing after a pet dog. It happened at about one Monday afternoon near North Quanah and Admiral.
The 12 year old, who is a 6th grader at Madison Middle School, darted out from between two parked cars. He was hit by an oncoming car and pinned underneath it. Neighbor, Monica Smedley, "I was in my living room and I saw Michael, the boy that got hit, out in the street and I came outside. That's when I heard the car slam on the brakes."
The investigation is underway, but police don't believe the driver of the car was going any faster than the 25 mile per hour speed limit.
Tulsa Police officer Sgt Steve Odom, "This is winter break and kids have let their guards down and this is supposed to be a nice joyous time of year and something like this happens. It affects all of us, the Fire Department and EMSA. Everybody feels it."
Neighbors also say Michael was a friend with another boy that was hit and killed by a car a couple of months ago.
