(McAlester-AP) -- An Oklahoma actor says he may have scored roles in two Western movies and also got a chance to meet Oscar-winning director Ron Howard.
Choctaw actor James Smith of the McAlester area says he traveled to Austin, Texas, and was cast a Mexican in a movie based on the Battle of the Alamo. Smith says he left training for the role early so he could go to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and try for a part in another movie about an Apache trying to rescue women taken hostage by tribal renegades. Filming is scheduled to start in February.
While in Santa Fe, Smith says he met Howard, who was born in Duncan.
Smith says his run at the movies has been educational. Directing staff told him to lose his Oklahoma accent. Smith says he didn't know he had one.
