(Shawnee-AP) -- A Shawnee man was undergoing surgery late Monday night after he was shot three times by police answering a disturbance call.
The man has not been identified. Police say he is 43 years old.
Shawnee police say officer John Goss is on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
Shawnee police Lieutenant Conny Clay says Goss was called to a house after dispatchers were told the man was trying to force his way into a bedroom.
Clay says the man confronted Goss with a knife when the officer entered the house. Clay says Goss shot the man after he refused several orders to drop the knife.
Kym Koch of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the man was shot was three times.
