(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma Muncipal League is forming a group to defend water rights of cities and towns in the state.
The league says it's necessary because the Oklahoma Rural Water Association is constantly siding with rural water districts and preventing communities from growing. Danny George of the league says the Rural Water Association should stick to making sure rural homes have safe drinking water.
Director Gene Whatley of the Rural Water Association is trying to keep Oklahoma communities from abandoning his organization. Whatley says none of members' dues are spent on legal fights between towns and rural water districts.
