(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A half dozen Oklahoma school districts were granted waivers Thursday from limits on the size of classes in kindergarten through third grade.
The state Board of Education today approved the requests allowing the schools to increase the number of students in the classes from 20 per teacher to 29 per teacher.
Included in Thursday's list are Moss Public Schools in Hughes County and Okmulgee Public Schools in Okmulgee County.
Education officials say funding cuts due to the state budget shortfall are forcing schools to increase the size of classes.
A total of 12 Oklahoma school districts now have a waiver allowing for the larger classes.
Earlier this month, Tulsa Public Schools received the same waiver.
