Muskogee teacher honored by Wal-Mart as national teacher of the year

(Muskogee-AP) -- A Muskogee 4th-grade teacher is this year's national winner of the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year award.

Cindy Ball wins recognition and a $10,000 prize for her school -- Sadler Arts Academy.

Sadler Principal Maudye Winget says Ball is creative and never seems to have a bad day.

Ball has already used prize money from local and state awards to improve a teachers work room at the school and to bring visiting artists in to talk with students.

Ball says she'll use money from the latest award to fund field trips that were canceled earlier this year because of budget cuts.
