(Tulsa-AP) -- The Oklahoma Heart Institute and the Tulsa city-county health department have given 38 defibrillators to Tulsa area high schools.
The devices can be used to restore a normal heartbeat for a person who suffers a heart attack.
The heart institute began giving away defibrillators last spring after two teenage athletes died suddenly.
Doctor James Coman with the institute says early defibrillation can be critical to saving lives.
The Tulsa chapter of the American Red Cross helped train school staff members to use the portable devices.
