NEW YORK (AP) _ Brad Isbister scored twice and rookie Mattias Weinhandl had three assists in the third period, rallying the New York Islanders past the New York Rangers 3-1 on Saturday.

Mark Parrish also scored in the final period, and Alexei Yashin had three assists for the Islanders, 84-81-17 against their biggest rivals. Weinhandl, playing his fifth NHL game, only had one previous assist.

Tom Poti gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the second.

It was not what rookie Rangers coach Bryan Trottier hoped for in his first game against the Islanders, the team with which he built a Hall of Fame playing career. Trottier missed three of the Rangers' five previous games because of a suspension and back pain. They were 3-0 without him and are only 6-11-3 with him.

Wild 4, Predators 2

In St. Paul, Minnesota, Marian Gaborik scored three goals to lead Minnesota over Nashville.

Gaborik's second hat trick of the season and fourth of his career moved him into the NHL lead with 15 goals. He broke a 2-2 tie with his second goal at 1:14 of the third, then scored at 3:24 as the Wild extended their unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2).

Andrew Brunette also scored, and Cliff Ronning had two assists for the Wild.

Adam Hall and Andy Delmore scored for Nashville, which is 0-4-2 in its last six games.

Senators 5, Blue Jackets 2

In Ottawa, Marian Hossa scored three goals, including the game-winner, to lead Ottawa over Columbus.

Petr Schastlivy and Wade Redden also scored for Ottawa, which extended its unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1-0).

Lightning 3, Devils 1

In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Dave Andreychuk became the 14th member of the NHL's 600-goal club by scoring two third-period goals in Tampa Bay's victory.

Andreychuk got his 600th career goal and snapped a 1-1 tie on a power play at 33 seconds. He then tied Jari Kurri for 13th place among career goal scorers when he got No. 601 on a deflection in front at 2:53.

Andreychuk's accomplishment overshadowed a great game by Tampa Bay goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin, who stopped 22 of 23 shots in the first two periods when New Jersey dominated. He finished with 32 saves.

Andre Roy scored the other Lightning goal. Sergei Brylin tallied for New Jersey.

Capitals 6, Thrashers 3

In Washington, the Capitals scored three goals in an 88-second span of the second period and ended a five-game winless streak.

Dany Heatley had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers.

Bruins 4, Sabres 1

In Boston, Steve Shields made 22 saves and Boston scored three power-play goals in a victory over Buffalo.

Mike Knuble, Glen Murray and Lee Goren all scored on the power play in the first period for the Bruins, who won their sixth straight at home and improved to 9-1-2 against Eastern Conference opponents.

Curtis Brown scored for the Sabres, who are 1-10-2-1 in their last 13 games. Buffalo has the lowest points total in the Eastern Conference, and has allowed 16 goals in the last four games.

Hurricanes 7, Canadiens 3

In Montreal, Erik Cole had his second career three-goal game and Carolina tied a franchise road record by scoring five times in the second period to roll past Montreal.

Defensemen Sean Hill and Glen Wesley each had three assists, and Bates Battaglia, Jan Hlavac, Jeff O'Neill and Ron Francis also scored for Carolina, which had its best offensive game of the season after entering with just 44 goals in its first 20 games.

Hurricanes goalie Arturs Irbe made his first appearance since Oct. 23 and made 28 saves for his first win (1-3-0) of the season.

Yanic Perreault scored twice and Richard Zednik added a goal for Montreal, which lost its second straight. Jose Theodore allowed all seven goals in his return to the lineup after missing two games because of a hip flexor injury.

Maple Leafs 6, Flyers 0

In Toronto, Ed Belfour made 25 saves for his second straight shutout as Toronto beat Philadelphia.

Jyrki Lumme, Jonas Hoglund, Darcy Tucker, Tie Domi, Mikael Renberg and Alexander Mogilny scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won four of five.

Fans chanted ``Ed-die! Ed-die!'' as Belfour got his 61st career shutout, tying him with Colorado's Patrick Roy for the most among active goaltenders. The 37-year-old goaltender, who signed with Toronto after Curtis Joseph left for Detroit, has stopped 119 of the last 123 shots he's faced.

Penguins 4, Sharks 1

In Pittsburgh, Martin Straka scored twice during a four-goal second period as Pittsburgh beat San Jose.

Marc Bergevin also scored for Pittsburgh, which hadn't beaten the Sharks since Oct. 22, 1997.

The Avalanche ended a three-game winless streak (0-1-2) and extended their winning streak in St. Louis to five games.

Pavol Demitra scored for the Blues, who haven't beaten the Avalanche in St. Louis since Feb. 25, 2000. The loss snapped a two-game home winning streak for St. Louis, which has lost five of its last eight overall since it went on a nine-game winning streak.

In Calgary, Alberta, Roman Turek made 32 saves and Denis Gauthier scored the tiebreaking goal for his first point of the season as Calgary ended a seven-game losing streak.

Chuck Kobasew and Chris Clark also scored for Calgary, which finished a five-game homestand with just its second home ice win (2-6-3-1).

Alexei Zhamnov scored the lone goal for Chicago, which has lost the first three games of its seven-game road trip.

Kings 2, Stars 0

In Los Angeles, Felix Potvin earned his 27th career shutout and Ziggy Palffy scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 5:03 left, as Los Angeles ended Dallas' six-game unbeaten streak.

With the game scoreless, Palffy was tripped by Mike Modano at the right of the net, but got back to his feet just in time to convert a rebound after Marty Turco made the save on Mathieu Schneider's shot from the left circle.

Palffy added an empty-netter with 15 seconds remaining.

Potvin made 29 saves en route to his second shutout this season.

Palffy's fourth goal prevented Turco from becoming only the second goalie in the history of the Dallas-Minnesota franchise to record shutouts on consecutive nights.

Red Wings 1, Oilers 1

In Edmonton, Alberta, Tommy Salo stopped 36 shots and Curtis Joseph made 26 saves as Edmonton and Detroit skated to a tie.

Brett Hull scored for Detroit, which is tied with St. Louis in the Central Division.

Salo faced 26 shots in the first two periods, and made a dazzling glove save on Sergei Fedorov in the second period. He also made a kick save on Igor Larionov early in the third period to keep the score tied at 1-1.

Joseph, who spent 2 1/2 seasons with Edmonton, sprawled to stop a sure goal off the stick of Anson Carter in the first period and turned away Ales Hemsky, who was alone in front of the net in the second.
