Seven adults and a 2-month-old baby are recovering after being overcome by carbon monoxide in their southeast Tulsa apartments Tuesday morning.
News on Six Reporter Patrina Adger says you can't see it, smell it or taste it, which is why the carbon monoxide surprised residents early Tuesday morning at the Falcon Ridge Apartments when they woke up felling dizzy and sick. The complex is located near 31st and Mingo.
When fire officials arrived at the apartment complex around 8:30 AM, they detected high levels of carbon monoxide in several apartment units. Nine families were moved to other units within the complex after fire officials deemed the building unsafe.
They say a water heater in the boiler room apparently wasn't ventilating properly. A Carbon Monoxide level of 50 parts per million means the poisonous gas is present. Tulsa Fire Department HAZMAT crews found several units containing levels between 80 and 500. Tulsa Fire Captain Hubert Rouse, "Everyone should have a CO detector in their home and know how to operate it in case something does happen, you'll know how to respond."
Eight people were seen at local hospitals and we're told they are all in good condition including the 2-month-old baby.
