NEW YORK (AP) _ Jaromir Jagr and Sergei Fedorov made overtime history on an otherwise special night for NHL goalies.

While five goalies posted shutouts Thursday night, Jagr and Fedorov each scored their NHL-record 11th career overtime goals.

Jagr scored his eighth goal of the season at 3:56 of the extra period to give the Washington Capitals a 2-1 home victory over the Florida Panthers.

In Detroit, Fedorov needed only 2:08 of extra time to rally the Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins.

Jagr and Fedorov created a three-way tie with Chicago's Steve Thomas, who entered the night as the only player to win 11 regular-season overtime games.

Of the 10 games on Thursday's schedule, five ended in shutouts and four needed overtime.

The New York Rangers were the only team to be successful in both categories as they broke a scoreless tie 51 seconds into overtime to beat the Calgary Flames 1-0.

In other games, it was Carolina 2, Buffalo 0; New Jersey 1, Philadelphia 0; Montreal 3, the New York Islanders 0; Chicago 5, Atlanta 0; Nashville 2, San Jose 2; Columbus 5, St. Louis 2; and Phoenix 4, Minnesota 1.

The Capitals used overtime and fine play in net to dispatch of the Panthers.

Jagr's goal made a winner of Olaf Kolzig, who made 32 saves after missing five games because of a wrist injury.

``It's pretty good money that he's going to put the puck in the net,'' Kolzig said. ``There's no other guy in the league, except other than Mario (Lemieux), that you want with the puck on a breakaway.''

But you'd have a choice if you needed someone to score in overtime.

Fedorov had just hit the ice and raced into the Boston zone to get the puck. Once he had it, he fired a slap shot that beat Bruins goalie John Grahame and snapped the Stanley Cup champions' winless streak at three games.

``I just walked in, picked up the pass and I shot it,'' Fedorov said.

It was just that simple.

Nicklas Lidstrom, who assisted on Fedorov's game-winner, tied it 1-1 with 9:43 left in the third period with a power-play goal. That ended the Red Wings' scoreless streak at 121 minutes, 36 seconds. Detroit's previous goal came in the third period of a 3-3 tie with Dallas last Sunday.

Devils 1, Flyers 0

At Philadelphia, Jamie Langenbrunner scored with 7:43 left and New Jersey snapped Philadelphia's six-game winning streak.

Seconds earlier, Devils goalie Martin Brodeur stopped Simon Gagne on a 2-on-1 breakaway. The Flyers fell to 9-2-2 under new coach Ken Hitchcock. New Jersey is 8-3 under Pat Burns.

Brodeur made 23 saves for his 56th career shutout, first this season and ninth by a 1-0 margin.

Hurricanes 2, Sabres 0

At Raleigh, North Carolina, Jeff O'Neill and Craig Adams scored for Carolina, and Kevin Weekes stopped 26 shots for his first shutout to extend Buffalo's winless streak to seven.

O'Neill scored his third game-winner in 14 games as Carolina earned points for the seventh time in eight games to move into a first-place tie with Tampa Bay in the Southeast Division.

The Sabres ended a road trip 0-4-2, scoring just six goals.

Canadiens 3, Islanders 0

At Montreal, Jose Theodore made 42 saves for his first shutout of the season to lead Montreal over New York.

Theodore, the league's MVP last season who entered with a 1-4-2 record and 4.06 goals-against-average, got his 16th career shutout despite Montreal being outshot 42-21.

Craig Rivet, Jan Bulis and Doug Gilmour scored goals.

Rangers 1, Flames 0, OT

At New York, Brian Leetch scored to give Dan Blackburn his first NHL shutout and lift New York past Calgary.

The 19-year-old Blackburn stopped 26 shots to earn his 13th career victory in his 36th game. The Rangers have beaten the Flames in overtime in three of the last four meetings.

Blue Jackets 5, Blues 2

At St. Louis, Andrew Cassels scored twice and Ray Whitney added a goal and two assists to help Columbus snap St. Louis' nine-game winning streak.

St. Louis (9-2-1) fell one game short of the club record for consecutive victories set last season.

It was the first road victory this season for the Blue Jackets, who finished last season with an eight-game road winless streak.

Blackhawks 5, Thrashers 0

At Chicago, Jocelyn Thibault stopped 17 shots for his second straight shutout, and Tyler Arnason and Mark Bell each had a goal and two assists as Chicago beat Atlanta.

Thibault's shutout was his third this season and 30th career. He stopped 18 shots in a 2-0 victory at Detroit on Tuesday.

Sharks 2, Predators 2

At San Jose, California, Marcus Ragnarsson scored with 6:07 remaining in regulation as San Jose came back from a two-goal deficit to tie Nashville.

Mike Rathje also scored for the Sharks.

Vladimir Orszagh and Andreas Johansson scored for the Predators, who snapped a four-game losing streak _ two in overtime _ but are winless in five straight. The Predators, unbeaten in overtime last season (5-0-13), are 0-4-2 in overtime this season and have lost nine games by one goal.

Coyotes 4, Wild 1

At Phoenix, Shane Doan scored twice during a three-goal first period as Phoenix handed Minnesota its first road loss.

Landon Wilson had a goal and an assist, and Claude Lemieux also scored as the Coyotes won for the third time in four games. Wilson's three-point game matched a career high.

Pascal Dupuis scored for the Wild, who entered the game 3-0-2 in their first five road games.
