The students caught up in the shooting at a Tulsa school spoke to The News on Six Friday as questions arise over whether the security guard who fired the shot will face charges.
News on Six anchor Craig Day spoke to Stephon Kelly who believes he's lucky to be alive.
He was in the wrong place at the wrong time when a security officer pulled a gun and fired.
Kelly was across the street when security officer Ronald Littles fired his gun at a former student, Jermaine Cox, and missed.
Cox had been suspended from school, but was back on campus. Cox says, "I went up there to pick up my cousin Darryl after school to give him a ride home and I seen a man with a gun and he aimed it at me and shot at me."
"The security officer, Ronald Littles, has told police he fired at Jermaine Cox because he feared for his life. According to Police, Cox had made threats before toward the officer."
The Security guard told police investgators Cox had a gun and was threatening to use it. Cox denies having a weapon, but investigators say in the chaos after the shooting, he could have had time to get rid of a weapon.
Cox claims," "He didn't say nothing. He just looked at me, had his gun out and shot at me."
Regardless of what prompted the shooting, according to Stephon Kelly, "You should have seen how many people there was. And he just opened fire into the crowd. It was a shot that should have never been fired."
At least a portion of the case has now been turned over to the Tulsa County District Attorney. The DA's office will have to decide whether the security officer was justified in firing the shot.
Meanwhile the school security officer, Ronald Littles, is on routine leave pending the outcome of the investigation and the review by the DA's office.
