A budget crunch still has Tulsa Public Schools looking for ways to save money.
Superintendent Doctor David Sawyers says the district may have to absorb another $4.5-million in cuts this school year. Sawyer says the budget news is only expected to get worse.
Despite the cuts, the district will continue to employ a legislative lobbyist. They agreed to a new contract at $50,000 a year. Margaret Erling, TPS lobbyist: "When all these people are at the table at the capitol saying not us, not us, it's important we have a presence at the capitol saying this is what we need you to do for the kids."
The district had a full-time employee doing the job until hiring former principal Margaret Erling on a contract basis two years ago.
