(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State and county officials are investigating the death of a baby born in the Oklahoma County jail.

The infant died Sunday five hours after it was born. The child's mother was released from a hospital Monday.

20-year-old Tiffani Bowers was six months pregnant when she was arrested Thursday on drug complaints and a traffic warrant. Captain Rickey Barrow of the sheriff's department says she was immediately taken to the jail's medical unit.

Barrow says jail staff members were trying to get Bowers moved to a hospital when she asked to use the toilet in her cell. Officers heard a cry for help and found the baby when they entered the cell.

Barrow says emergency medical help arrived within ten minutes and the mother and child were taken to a hospital.
