OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A speeding car collided with a van on Interstate 35 and then crashed into oncoming traffic Thursday morning, injuring four people and forcing a two-hour closure of the interstate, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
The car, a Saturn, was weaving in and out of traffic and traveling more than 80 mph south on I-35, near the Kilpatrick Turnpike, when the accidents occurred at 8:15 a.m, patrol Lt. Chris West said. The vehicle burst into flames after the accidents.
The interstate was littered with damaged cars and broken glass. There is no center median barrier where the Saturn veered into oncoming traffic.
I-35 was reopened about 10:15 a.m.
``It's amazing no one was killed,'' West said.
The driver of the Saturn injured his face and back and was taken by helicopter to OU Medical Center, said Oklahoma City fire Maj. Brian Stanaland.
The driver of another car had a fractured leg, another had a broken arm and a third had a leg injury, Stanaland said.
