A proposed highway could serve as a national shortcut, connecting the southeast area of the country to the northwest.

The Northwest Passage Highway would connect Tulsa to Wichita and continue northwest to Interstate 70 at Hays, Kansas. The North Star Economic Development Council met Monday night in Tulsa to discuss the benefits of such a highway.

Council members say it will allow smaller cities to the northwest better access to Tulsa's medical and educational resources. They also say it will help our area grow at the same pace as the rest of the country. Kevin Anderson with the North Star Economic Development Council: "If we could create one between the southeast and the northwest, all of a sudden we put northeastern Oklahoma at a crossroads for future growth."

Several area mayors, county commissioners, transportation department officials and state representatives attended the meeting.
