At a Sallisaw courtroom on Wednesday, jurors in the murder trial of Kenneth Eugene Barrett heard a taped interview with the accused killer. Barrett is on trial for killing Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Rocky Eales during a drug raid at Barrett's Sequoyah County cabin.
While recovering in a Tulsa hospital from gunshot wounds he received during the shootout, Barrett spoke on tape with an investigator. In the interview he claimed that he grabbed a gun and shot from the door of his cabin after seeing a truck coming toward him and being shot in the legs.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Barrett's attorneys are trying to prove their client fired in self-defense.
