NEW YORK (AP) _ Elvis may have left the building, but he's still in the record store _ and he's managed to sell a half-million copies of his new disc to debut at No. 1 on the album charts.
Not only did ``Elvis 30 No. 1 Hits'' debut at No. 1 in the United States, it topped the charts in 16 other countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Australia.
According to industry figures released Wednesday, it sold a little more than 500,000 copies.
The disc was buoyed by a massive marketing campaign from Presley's record label, RCA Records, and by the hoopla surrounding the 25th anniversary of Presley's death in August.
The album includes classics including ``Love Me Tender,'' ``Return to Sender'' and ``Are You Lonesome Tonight?''
