(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The director of the American Quarter Horse Association says ending quarter horse racing at Remington Park in Oklahoma City would cost the state 57,000 jobs.
Dan Fick said today the industry provides nearly two (b) billion dollars a year to the Oklahoma economy.
The Oklahoma Racing Commission has given preliminary approval to the park's request to eliminate the 34-day quarter horse racing season.
The commission has now subpoenaed the park's financial records and is expected to vote on the issue next Thursday.
Remington Park says it lost $4.7-million last year, an amount the horse racing group questions.
