City of Tulsa employees took time to remember the victims of September 11th, especially the first responders who lost their lives trying to save others.
The Wednesday morning program started with the City of Tulsa Drum and Pipe, and an honor guard made up of firefighters, police and EMSA workers.
Mayor Bill LaFortune shared his the emotions he felt as he watched live coverage of the attacks. He also spoke of the determination in the faces of first responders, who walked into the towers as thousands ran in the other direction. LaFortune says emergency workers do it every day.
Sandy McGhee with the International Association of Fire Fighters, "We made a pledge, we swore that we would sacrifice our lives and once you make that pledge you never really think about it; and so it's difficult to be called a hero, because that's somebody that's special and we just think we're doing our job."
Tulsa Fire Chief Allen LaCroix told city employees, emergency crews couldn't do their work without the water, the streets, or the finances they help to provide.
