WASHINGTON (AP) _ A Wisconsin company is recalling about 70,000 portable basketball hoops with sharp, protruding bolts on the player's side of the pole.
Huffy Sports Co., of Sussex, has received 11 reports of injuries _ including leg and body lacerations _ from consumers who collided with the bolt as they fell against the pole, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Monday.
The recalled products are portable, vertically mounted basketball hoops that come assembled with a plastic base that can be weighted down with sand or water. The basketball poles are painted black, with the Huffy brand name on the backboard, main pole or plastic base. The protruding bolt on the player side of the pole is about 20 inches above the ground.
The hoops were sold at sporting goods, department and toy stores from November 2001 to May 2002.
Consumers can receive a free bolt cover by contacting the company at 1-800-558-5234.
