(Stillwater-AP) -- Stillwater police and federal authorities are investigating an attempted theft that heavily damaged two airplanes owned by Oklahoma State.

Police say someone apparently broke into the cockpit of one of the planes, started the engine and taxied it toward a runway. The plane's wing struck the propeller of a parked airplane and damaged that plane's fuel tank.

The would-be thief then ran away before the damage was discovered early Saturday.

Both planes are used for flight training.
