Investigators are working to determine why a man charged at police officers with a sword Friday.
That man was shot and killed by Owasso Police. That shooting happened at about 10:45 Friday morning in Owasso. Police and Tulsa County Sheriff's deputies went to a home near 106th Street North and 123rd East Avenue on a call of a man acting suicidal.
When officers arrived, the man charged at officers with a samurai sword. Mace didn't stop the man, who is in his early 30's, so the Owasso officers shot him. Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputy Sgt Willie Lewis, "we're in the process of trying to investigate now to try to get some answers as to why this happened, and what he was going through and what was going on to this point."
The Owasso Police officers involved in the fatal shooting are on routine leave while the investigation is underway. The Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputy who responded to the home didn't fire his weapon.
