McALESTER, Okla. (AP) _ A window manufacturer has hired 72 people who will be trained at the company's other plants in Illinois and West Virginia.

Simonton Windows expects to open the new McAlester plant in September.

The first group of workers, who already have received some training at Kiamichi Technology Center, will leave next week for a two-week training session at other plants.

``We're basically learning everything there is to know about windows,'' said Fred Weeden of Arpelar. ``There's a lot more to it than most people would imagine.''

The 72 employees were selected from nearly 2,000 applicants, said Kitty Corder with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. The company plans to hire 125 people by the end of the year, she said.

The McAlester plant will produce about 3,000 windows per day, said assistant plant manager Jeff Schneider.
