(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Oklahoma first lady Cathy Keating Tuesday announced the start of a three-year, state-funded teacher training program.
The Oklahoma Schools Attuned program is to help teachers modify how they teach and understand the different ways children learn.
Broken Arrow middle school teacher Brent Rowland says the five-and-a-half day training is making a difference in his relationship with students. Rowland says it helps him develop strategies to address problems the students experience.
The state will spend two-and-a-half million dollars on the program during the next two years.
The program was developed in North Carolina and has been used in two Tulsa schools since 1995. It was implemented in Enid schools in 1999.
Eleven more Tulsa schools and 22 in Oklahoma City use the program this fall.
