(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Attorney General Drew Edmondson believes pollution problems in Oklahoma's scenic rivers won't get better until the poultry industry gets involved.

Edmondson spoke today during a summit in Oklahoma City between environmental officials from Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Edmondson said chicken waste is the primary source of pollution of the Illinois River and Lake Tenkiller. He said without the poultry industry involvement, efforts to solve the problem will likely be unsuccessful.

Arkansas officials believe emergency rules on phosphorous levels imposed last month are too stringent. The Illinois River flows from Arkansas to Oklahoma.

State Environment Secretary Brian Griffin says Oklahoma has agreed to provide more substantial input from Arkansas on additional rulemaking.
