The average Medicare recipient spends around $200 a month on prescription drugs, and for someone on a limited budget that can mean not having enough money to pay for necessities, such as food and utility bills.

Oklahoma 1st District Congressman John Sullivan was recently appointed to the Prescription Drug Action Team. He stopped by our studios Tuesday to talk about a plan he hopes to get passed in Congress that would lighten the expense load for Medicare recipients.

Sullivan, "We're gonna negotiate a group rate with all the Medicare recipients and it will be a 30% reduction right off the bat, so they'll be able to save that much right off the bat. And we're gonna you know, drive the cost down.”

Sullivan says the bill will be out of the House by the August recess and then must go before the Senate for approval.
