(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Two Oklahoma City hospitals will participate in a national study of sleep disorders suffered by people who work night shifts.

Doctor Jonathan Schwartz of Integris Baptist and Integris Southwest medical centers says the study will focus on a non-addictive drug that helps keep patients awake.

Doctors say shift work sleep disorder is a common problem for factory workers, police officers, hospital nurses and others who work from 10 o'clock at night to 8 in the morning.

Symptoms include sleepiness, insomnia, headaches and loss of attention. Researchers say it can even be deadly by increasing the risk of traffic accidents, high blood pressure and weight gain.
