The Tulsa Police Department remembers fellow officers killed in the line of duty.

A memorial service was held Saturday morning at the Tulsa Police Department's training center on East 66th Street North. News on Six reporter Patrina Adger was there and says it was a very emotional day for those who attended the service.

Since 1917, 39 police officers have died while protecting the citizens of Tulsa. And each one of those officers was honored Saturday. One by one, the names of thirty-eight men and one female officer was called aloud as family members placed flowers on a Tulsa badge in their honor.

The Tulsa Police Department's Honor Guard remembered their own with a 21 gun salute. Police Chief Ron Palmer said, Saturday was a day to seek the sorrow and the celebration of each fallen officers tasks and to appreciate the dignity and the honor of their deaths. "Although none of us can't possibly know all the officers killed in Tulsa since 1917, you can actively assume that they died courageously. That is, they died for a cause that many consider extremely noble."

Mayor Bill LaFortune was at Saturdayâ€™s ceremony along with dozens of families from out of state.
