A panel of health and public safety leaders is calling for a plan of prevention in Vinita.
It stems from the shooting death of 45-year-old Deanna Dorsey in Vinita last October. Dorsey was a nurse killed on-duty by a mentally ill patient.
Vinita law enforcement, mental health specialists and community leaders are searching for solutions to keep another tragedy from happening. They could pattern it after a state-funded program operating here in Tulsa County. Cindy Hickl with COPES of Tulsa County, "We get call from family members, local physicians, neighbors that don't know who's living next to them but they're having a problem."
The Vinita Health Care and Safety Committee will hold a town hall meeting to discuss plans for funding a mental health program.
