LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Bill Peavey's single ignited a five-run third inning that proved to be the difference as Southern Cal defeated Oral Roberts 12-4 in the first game of the NCAA baseball regionals Friday.
Rik Currier (11-1) held the Golden Eagles to four earned runs on seven hits in five innings. Brian Bannister pitched the final four innings and gave up three hits.
Alberto Concepcion's double added to the Trojans' lead in the fourth and put them ahead 7-0 before Oral Roberts scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-4.
That would be the end of Oral Robert's scoring as Southern Cal went on to score five runs in the final three innings.
Michael Moon went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Michael Rogers (14-1) suffered his first loss of the season. Rogers gave up gave up seven runs, five of which were earned, in three innings.
