TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Sumya Anani won the International Boxing Association lightweight title with a 10-round decision against Liz Mueller at the 10th annual Tulsa Charity Fight Night.
Anani, of Overland Park, Kan., improved to 17-1 with the victory Friday night.
``I thought we were well-matched and I thought it was a great fight,'' Anani said. ``Obviously, we were well-matched because we went 10 rounds. She was good and she was tough, but I felt stronger in the later rounds.''
Mueller (6-2), of New London, Conn., was most effective when countering with left hooks and fighting inside. But she was frustrated by Anani's three-inch height advantage and longer reach,
``It was a war. I guess she wanted it more,'' Mueller said. ``She's a great fighter. She's definitely a talent. I think this was a good fight for women's boxing.''
The three judges scored 96-94, 98-92 and 99-91 in favor of Anani. Both women were paid $5,000.
