LIVERPOOL, England (AP) _Red Marauder with Richard Guest aboard won Saturday's Grand National steeplechase with Smarty finishing second with Timmy Murphy riding in a race that saw only two of the 40 starters finish without losing their jockeys.

The race, run under driving rain and heavy, muddy conditions took a brutal toll over the 4 1/2-mile course (7.2 kilometers). Blowing wind finished third after it was remounted with last year's champion Papillon finishing fourth after it was also remounted.

They were the only four to complete the course.

Red Marauder was a 33-1 shot at the start with Edmond and Moral Support going off as 10-1 co-favorites.
