(Fort Gibson-AP) -- The superintendent who's credited with leading the Fort Gibson school district back to normalcy following a 1999 school shooting, is leaving.
Steve Wilmoth will leave Fort Gibson to take over a district in Hinesville, Georgia, in July.
Wilmoth drew national attention and local praise for pulling the community and schools together after a Fort Gibson student opened fire in December 1999, wounding five classmates.
Wilmoth says while he's been praised for his action following the shooting, he has nothing but regret for being one of the schools involved in a student shooting.
