TURLEY, Okla. - A man employed at the Turley Correctional Center has been suspended without pay in connection with the alleged rape of a female inmate.
The rape is alleged to have happened late Monday, but there were no witnesses, facility spokeswoman Tiffany Smith said. Nobody has been arrested.
The Tulsa County sheriff's office and the state Corrections Department are investigating and would not release the employee's name.
Capt. Bob Bass said there were several reports that the incident occurred.
Corrections Department officials took the woman to a Tulsa hospital for examination Tuesday night, Chief Deputy Brian Edwards said.
The Turley Correctional Center is a halfway house operated by the private Avalon Correctional Services Inc. It is occupied mostly by female inmates, Smith said.
She said the suspect was hired in January after undergoing a criminal background check.
