(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A rally by members of the Teamsters Union Tuesday forced the closing of a portion of the highway that passes in front of the state Capitol.
The eastbound lanes of 23rd Street were closed by state Capitol police. The highway passes by the Capitol and the governor's mansion.
The Teamsters were marching to the Capitol in protest of proposed right-to-work legislation scheduled for debate in the state Senate Wednesday. The bill calls for a statewide election on whether unions should be prohibited from requiring workers to pay dues.
Supporters of right-to-work say it will increase jobs while opponents contend it would diminish the effectiveness of organized labor.
