(Norman-AP) -- Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops has quickly shut down talk that he would be interested in taking the Miami job.

Stoops says a reporter from South Florida called him early yesterday to ask if he's interested in coaching the Hurricanes. The call came before Miami coach Butch Davis was officially named the new coach of the N-F-L's Cleveland Browns.

Stoops says he has no interest whatsoever, that Oklahoma is the best place in the country to coach and play.

Stoops says his only interest is pursuing the records of former O-U coaches Bud Wilkinson and Barry Switzer, and improving the Sooners through the current recruiting class.

National signing day is next week.
