ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Cris Carter won't be retiring after all.
The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver was expected to officially announce on Thursday that he will return to the team next year, and possibly play two more seasons.
Carter planned an afternoon news conference in Tampa, Fla., site of Sunday's Super Bowl, to discuss his NFL future. Several reports, citing unidentified sources, said Carter will be back.
``All indications are that he will return to play,'' Vikings owner Red McCombs said Wednesday. ``I don't know of anything else that will happen.''
Carter, 35, said he made his decision in November, but he has not discussed it publicly since Minnesota's 41-0 loss to the New York Giants in the NFC championship game. He declined comment Wednesday.
Carter made the Pro Bowl this season. He also has talked about moving into broadcasting and has had preliminary talks with Fox and ESPN.
