â€More than 147,000 Oklahomans hold associate degrees with an applied science specialization,†said Lori Santiago, vice-president and director of Oklahoma Campus, University of Phoenix. “The partnership announced today will provide Tulsa Community College graduates with a way to complete a management degree in their field of study and get maximum credit for the work they completed for the associate degree.†“Many T-C-C students are the family breadwinner or a single parent, looking to be successful in education by acquiring a practical skill or certification or earning a degree while working at their job,†said Dr. Dean VanTrease, Tulsa Community College president and chief executive officer. â€This partnership provides our students with an additional educational option, to transfer to the University of Phoenix seamlessly and complete a bachelor’s degree. It is a wonderful option because of the focus of the University of Phoenix on business, e-business, and management.â€
The TCC-University of Phoenix articulation agreement was inspired by a national initiative from the League of Innovation for Community Colleges, which sought a national college or university to provide a bachelors degree which community college students could earn without loosing credits acquired while earning their associate degrees. TCC is only the second community college in the United States to take advantage of this national initiative.
Upon completion of any of T-C-C’s 49 associate degrees in applied science, a T-C-C graduate is guaranteed admission to the University of Phoenix.
The T-C-C associate degree will automatically transfer to the University of Phoenix as a block of credit. A maximum of 72 transfer credits will apply toward the bachelor of science degree in management. A maximum of 60-69 transfer credits will apply toward any other University of Phoenix bachelor of science degree program.
A T-C-C graduate can complete the bachelor of science degree in management without retaking associate degree classes in his/her major area. Upon completion of the bachelor of science degree in management, the associate degree focus of the T-C-C graduate will be listed as an area of emphasis on the University of Phoenix baccalaureate transcript and diploma.
The bachelor of science degree in management is designed for working adults in diverse industries, such as criminal justice, fashion design, health management, and information technology. It focuses on developing the basic skills needed to manage people and processes in their own professional context.
