TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) â€” America West Airlines on Friday announced the appointment of Thomas K. MacGillivray as chief financial officer and senior vice president for finance.

MacGillivray had been the senior vice president and CFO for Central Newspapers Inc. in Phoenix for seven years. Before that, he served as director of investments and trust funds for CNI in Indianapolis.

``Tom has a varied and successful background in investment and corporate finance and is a proven chief financial officer,'' said America West chairman and chief executive William A. Franke. ``We believe that Tom's leadership skills and financial expertise will serve America West well.

America West is the nation's ninth-largest carrier, with more than 890 daily departures in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The airline has hubs in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Columbus, Ohio.
